A Note From Our Founder
Dear Friends,
It’s my absolute pleasure to share this wrap-up of Little Opera’s third season with you. We’ve made tremendous leaps forward this year in everything from music composition strategies, to student scholarships, artist partnerships and the vision for where we’re headed next. There’s a palpable momentum bringing us out of our third year and into our fourth.
Our students are looking to the future too. I learned just how much, sitting on the edge of the stage at our final dress rehearsal, when a first-year student turned to me and said “I’m sad I’m in 5th grade because it means I won’t be able to be in Little Opera next year.” I let her in on a secret — she wouldn’t be too old. I told her that next year we planned to start working with middle school students, and we would keep on growing so that by the time she was in high school, we’d have a high school program too. The only time she would be too old for Little Opera, I said, was when she left us to go to college. “No,” she countered, “I won’t ever be too old because after I go to college I’ll come back and teach Little Opera to the little kids.”
That enthusiasm, and total ownership of Little Opera is what sets this year apart for me. Though I founded Little Opera, it’s no longer just mine — it belongs to our students, families, artists, teachers, and supporters, all of whom are building it into something I am immensely proud of. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
Thank you for joining us on this ride,
